Summary

Parker Health Group, Inc. is a not-for-profit, New Jersey-based aging services organization that has been committed to empowering older Americans for over 100 years. Parker worked with the design team to implement a multi-phased plan to right-size and transform the dated Somerset complex. The 120-bed post-acute rehabilitation and nursing home was designed to meet the spiritual, physical, social and psychological needs of residents—to support and encourage all residents to reach their full potential.

Inspired Design

Parker’s new brand standards—modern, hip, and bright—influenced decisions as the team created a hospitality-inspired design concept to align with the energetic and contemporary brand. A variety of amenities, design features and programs support active living and connectivity for this short and long term care experience. The addition includes a ground floor café, second level therapy suite, spacious gathering areas between resident wings, large private guest suites, bariatric suites as well as an Adult Day Care and Child Day Care.

Style

The 75,000-sq.ft addition was positioned in front of the existing structure to create both a new entry sequence and refreshed community presence. A mix of contemporary materials (brick, metal, and glass) offers a sleek, textural façade punctuated with a modern entrance canopy. Visitors are welcomed into a light-filled, two-story atrium space that provides visual connections to the energy and activity on each level.

Materials

A thoughtful balance of cool and warm tones throughout the community provides a light and bright neutral backdrop accented with rich, warm woods and pops of the Parker brand hues. Dramatic ceiling elements and light fixtures, eye-catching focal walls, modern furnishings, and exciting art installations create striking details that make every area memorable.
