Summary
Greenleaf Rehab at Smith Village continues Smith Senior Living’s efforts to reimagine rehabilitation and provide its residents and local hospitals with a more resident-centered solution to short-term rehab. Due to the tight urban site, the design team developed a thoughtful renovation and building addition strategy to enhance the short-term and long-term rehabilitation services on the Smith Village campus.
Inspired Design
The design inspiration speaks to two distinct resident types within this rehab environment. The short-term focused first floor was inspired by the sleek style of a boutique hotel, while the second and third floors were infused with the warmth and comforts of home for those in long-term care. Spacious guest suites with private bathrooms, inviting commons spaces and a state-of-the-art therapy gym support the Rehab-Restore-Relax mantra.
Style
The new building addition offers a contemporary edge to the campus that is continued in the interior design. Expansive windows in guest suites and amenity spaces flood the interior with natural light. Clean lines and textural finishes are accented with curvilinear details to create a sophisticated healing environment. Guest suites feature hotel-inspired headwalls and casework. Nurse nooks are framed in curved millwork display walls to support staff privacy while maintaining sightlines to guests.
Materials
A palette of cool grays on the first floor plays with sleek and textural finishes, including metallic accents and walnut details, to achieve the boutique hotel atmosphere. The second and third floor transition to a warmer gray palette with rich cherry tones and a muted palette of soft golds and blues inspired by the soothing comforts of home.
