Summary
Riderwood is one of 20 continuing care retirement communities managed by Erickson Living®. Located in Silver Spring, Maryland, the scenic 120-acre campus is home to more than 2,500 residents. The addition of this two-story, 25,000-sq.ft. fitness and aquatic center continues the community’s investment in modernizing the campus to meet the needs of current and future residents.
Inspired Design
Health and wellness are a top priority for today’s senior population, and expectations are high when potential residents are looking for state-of-the-art facilities that rival what the greater community has to offer. The team was inspired by both the contemporary forms of the architecture as well as the challenge to create a vibrant interior to engage residents and exceed expectations.
Style
The design blurs the lines between exterior and interior by accentuating contemporary forms and connections to nature. Natural daylight floods every space in order to invigorate guests. The striking curvilinear roof line is repeated in details throughout the interior to reinforce a sense of movement and activity. Clean lines and uninterrupted views engage guests and infuse the wellness center with energy and vitality.
Materials
The nature-inspired palette balances warm, rich wood tones with accents of vibrant colors, from a stimulating orange to cool, crisp blues and purples. Wall details, decorative panels, carpet and fabric patterns provide layers of subtle texture that create visual interest at every turn.
