Summary
Smith Senior Living is a forward-thinking provider always looking out for the best interest of seniors as well as the Illinois community they serve. This state-of-the-art project reimagines rehabilitation and provides Smith Crossing and local hospitals with a more resident-centered solution to short term rehab. This is a destination that gives guests the personalized services and ample time they need to properly recuperate and return home to healthy, daily living.
Inspired Design
With a mantra of Rehab-Restore-Relax, the design was inspired by a theme of comfort and hospitality. The intent was to take a modern, boutique hotel approach to rehab with dining as a featured amenity. Upon entering, visitors and guests are welcomed into a voluminous space that offers a reception area as well as an enticing casual dining atmosphere with plenty of lounge space. While this is a perfect place for visitors to wait, it also encourages guests to venture from the comfort of their spacious private suites, as their mobility allows, to enjoy chef prepared meals and camaraderie.
Style
While the exterior continues the Craftsmen architecture on campus, the interior design complements this style with a modern sensibility. Each space maximizes connections to the outdoors with a décor that reflects elements of nature. Clean lines, soft curves and well-appointed art and accessories achieve the desired hospitality-style environment with a focus on relaxation and recuperation.
Materials
The soothing color palette carefully balances a collection of warm neutrals with serene blues and greens. Rich wood tones ground the space, while textural flooring materials add visual interest. Pops of vibrant color in the café soffit and therapy ceiling offer unexpected details that energize the interior. The art and accessories reinforce this colorful energy and infuse the space with enticing glass and metal elements.
“We were looking for something new for this rehab project. We really wanted a “wow” factor in the public areas and a more residential feel for the guest rooms. MDP hit a home run with delivering exactly this! From clearly presenting ideas to Smith Crossing’s team and seamless communication at every level to delivering an inspired design solution within our budget, MDP exceeded every expectation from start to finish.”
